This advance works contract in South Ayrshire was our first project for Asda Stores.
The scope of work included the demolition of an existing building and the excavation and stockpiling of identified areas of hydrocarbon contamination.
Some 1,500 m3 of contaminated material was treated by ex-situ bio-remediation. After detailed SI works identified areas of contamination, selective excavation and general processing works ensured that only suitable material was subsequently sentenced for treatment.
During the processing element of the works approximately 40% of excavated material was recovered and reintroduced to the works. In addition, the bio-remediation proved a success in that 100% of the materials treated in this way achieved levels that permitted its re-use on site.
The site was restricted and one major challenge lay in ensuring continuous access for our neighbours.
