The Site was formally arable land and is situated on the northwest side of Falkirk.
The contract was essentially construction of the main distributor roads and roundabouts for new housing developments by Walker Homes and Persimmon Homes. Our contract was split into three phases to suit their house building and marketing strategies.
The project commenced with earthworks, including a substantial material import for embankment construction. This was followed by sewer and surface water drainage installation, which was carried out in a common trench. Road construction, sign erection and provision of systems for Statutory Authorities completed the works.
One of the more challenging aspects was construction of a box culvert to channel an existing watercourse through one of the new embankments. The poor ground conditions were addressed by installing the precast concrete culvert segments on a base of polystyrene blocks. These same blocks were also used as backfill and the entire construction was encapsulated with an impermeable plastic liner, to provide protection against any aggressive solvents which might otherwise come into contact with the structure.
