Luggie Glen Business Park Infrastructure

image This traditional project included the remediation of a former sewage treatment works, the creation of a new roundabout on the main A89 dual carriageway connecting Glasgow and Coatbridge and the formation of a short access road to serve the future business park.

The contamination of the site related to its historical use as a sewage treatment works. The main contaminants were heavy metals, although some hydrocarbon contamination was also evident. Material assessed as contaminated was excavated, stockpiled then subjected to extensive testing. The test results determined whether the material was safe for re-use on site, or had to be taken off site to a licensed landfill.
In addition to roadworks and drainage, the project also included service diversions, street lighting, safety barriers, signs and road markings. Extensive traffic management in several phases was required to ensure two-way flow at all times at this busy location.
We also participated in delivering training to unemployed people in conjunction with the Council’s New Deal Environment Task Force.
