Remediation – Introduction

Quality You Can Build On

Government policy actively promotes the sustainable reuse of brownfield land. We have the resources and experience to offer landowners and developers a one-stop property and environmental solution to the challenges posed by environmental legislation and liabilities.

I & H Brown is now an established presence in the remediation sector. We have a track record of successfully applying a wide range of sustainable technologies to the cleanup of contaminated land, including ex-situ bio-remediation, soil washing, stabilisation, water treatment and low temperature thermal desorptionOur primary objectives are always the maximization of re-use of material on site, with the minimization of expensive and environmentally-unfriendly disposal to landfill.

Since 2002, we have been the term contractors for National Grid Property Holdings Ltd for the demanding remediation of former gasworks in Scotland. Through this partnership with our Client and their designers, we have been routinely involved from initial scoping of a project, through development of the cost plan and the remediation strategy to the eventual implementation and validation.

Although our partnership with National Grid has now encompassed more than 30 packages of work, we have actually exceeded that total of specialist remediation projects for other Clients – split almost equally between the public and private sectors.

We operate to comprehensive environmental (ISO 14001), health and safety and quality assurance (ISO 9001) systems and we are fully licensed for waste management, waste handling and transportation. We hold a Mobile Plant Licence which, together with our WAMITAB-accredited staff, allows us to undertake treatments on multiple sites using a wide range of technologies.

I & H Brown can remove the uncertainties associated with the extent of a site’s problems, the likely clean-up costs and the programme. We are also prepared to back our own capabilities:

“What sets I & H Brown apart from other companies is our willingness to enter into joint ventures or partnerships with landowners or developers. We can add value through innovation and by providing sustainable regeneration solutions through sharing the risk and the rewards generated.”

J Scott Brown, Managing Director
