Civil Engineering - Infrastructure

By our own definition, ‘Infrastructure’ is the heavy civil engineering work required to prepare or enable a site, after earthworks and reclamation, for a follow-on development.

This may include activities such as roadworks, drainage, reinforced concrete structures, service installation and retaining structures of all kinds.

Although we were once considered to be almost solely interested in earthworks, it is now the case that a significant proportion of our civil engineering opportunities lie in the infrastructure sector. Indeed, our two largest civil engineering projects to date – Overton Farm and the Commonwealth Games enabling works – have both been infrastructure schemes.

We now have a huge amount of experience from numerous infrastructure projects in both the public and private sectors. We have built up a strong team with the competence and expertise to deliver successful outcomes across a wide range of work types. We are experienced in managing sub-contractors and we have the people, systems and supply chain to tackle large and complex schemes. Of course, we offer major advantages where infrastructure projects incorporate elements of land or water remediation.

Infrastructure projects carried out by I & H Brown have taken forms as diverse as
  •  Main road and drainage networks for private housing or building
  •  Public sector highway works and drainage works
  •  Access roads, hardstandings, control buildings, cabling and turbine bases for wind farms
  •  Long stay airport car parks
  •  Concrete  bridges, hardstandings and structural foundations
