The inner harbour at Dysart had become clogged with around 10,000 cubic metres of silt, which had accumulated since the last clean-up of this small port on the Forth just east of Kirkcaldy.
The material could not be trafficked and the working room around the harbour was extremely restricted. Our solution was to employ a long-reach excavator and a dragline, which acted together at all stages of tide to load the silt into tippers. Additional temporary works were required to create access to the harbour walls.
The silt was approximately 4 metres deep in places and extended 2 metres below the bed of the harbour entrance. The material was taken for disposal to a local landfill as a capping layer and soil improver.
