Braehead phase 2 - sites 2, 3 & 4, Renfrew

image This site on the eastern outskirts of Renfrew will eventually incorporate a housing development, a large leisure facility and green parkland area.
Our contract principally consisted of site clearance, earthworks and remediation.
The initial site clearance works included the removal and stockpiling of over 9000m3 of Japanese Knotweed, all in accordance with the relevant Environment Agency Code of Practice.
We then progressed to excavate and remove to landfill soils that were heavily contaminated with hydrocarbons and asbestos. All 60,000m3 of contaminated material were removed from site and taken to an appropriately licensed landfill facility.

image The project also featured the demolition of a large underground reinforced structure - that had formerly been the Braehead Power Station - and the associated inlet and outlet channels/pipes. All non contaminated concrete was crushed on site and reused to form the housing platforms. A large stockpile of surplus crushed material was left on site for the Client on completion of the contract.

Our final activity was the filling and re-modelling of the existing ground profile to provide platforms for the subsequent large housing development.

All of the material used in the project was site won either from demolitions, excavations or from a large existing stockpile. This brought considerable resource efficiency and cost savings for the client.
