This lump sum fixed-price project was for the construction of the civil engineering and ancillary works needed for the construction of the 22 turbine Black Hill wind farm near Duns in the Scottish borders.
The major elements of our scope of works included the construction of more than 8km of site access roads, with 22 sets of turbine foundations, transformer foundations and crane hardstandings. We built a new control building and installed all of the power and control cabling within the site. Other activities included forestry, drainage and the improvement of the existing access from the nearest public road.
Material was quarried from two on-site borrow pits. One of those pits, along with certain sections of road and hardstanding could not be accessed during the spring bird nesting season.
The initial construction phase of the development was followed by several months of road maintenance during the installation and commissioning of the turbines.
